Whole Kids Review: Organic, Healthy Snacks for Kids With No Nasties (PLUS GIVEAWAY)

Whole Kids: Organic, Healthy Snacks for Kids With No Nasties

If I had a dollar for every time one of my children told me they were hungry, I’d probably be holidaying somewhere warm and exotic right now instead of being here talking to you. Have you noticed they’re always hungry the minute you sit down to relax with a cuppa? Or when you’re on the phone to someone having a decent adult conversation with a real grown up.

“Muuuuum!  I’m hungry!”

It’s never-ending.  They have stomachs like bottomless pits!

Whilst I do pride myself on providing my family with healthy nutritious meals, if I jumped up to rustle up a snack every time someone felt their stomach growl, I would never leave the kitchen. So having plenty of fruit and healthy snacks around that the children can get for themselves in the fridge and the pantry is not only essential for their health, it’s also extremely important for my own personal sanity!

But it’s not always as simple as it sounds. Finding kids snack foods that are nutritious and not chockful of unnecessary and potentially harmful additives, preservatives and colouring is no mean feat. All too often the foods that are marketed to young children are high in sugar, fat, sodium and empty calories. And it’s no coincidence that there has also been a corresponding rise in child health issues such as diabetes, obesity and food allergies. We are what we eat!

When I was recently asked if I’d be interested in trialling and reviewing some snacks from Whole Kids, I politely replied that I would (rather than frantically typing back “Hurry!  Send supplies quickly before they eat me out of house and home!” which is really what I meant.

A few days later, these arrived on my doorstep.

‘Whole Kids make organic healthy snacks for kids without any of the artificial preservatives, colours, flavours and other nasties,’ I read.

So far they sounded awesome, but so did other healthy snacks I’ve tried in my time that proved to have less taste than a mouthful of cardboard. Would the kids go for these ‘wholesome’ snacks?

That day when the kids got home from school and made their way to the pantry like a line of hungry ants on the prowl for crumbs, my eldest son Woo yelled out “Hey mum! The kid on this box looks like Foghorn when he was little.”

“Let me see,” said Foghorn wrestling the box off his brother. “OMG!  It does!”

“They’re dinosaurs!” squeaked Bubble trying to look too.

“Can we have one please mum?” Woo asked as he tore the box open before I could answer.

“Yes, but nothing else then until dinnertime!” I answered, and stood back and waiting to see their reactions.

When my children eat it is one of the few times during the day when they are quiet and not fighting or yelling to one another from different rooms, so despite the sound of crunching I sat down and enjoyed that 90 seconds of peace.

“Can I take some to school tomorrow please Mum?” Bubble asked casually trying to stuff the empty packet down the back of the couch without me seeing, rather than walk 2 metres away to the bin.

“Rubbish in the bin please guys,” I said giving her the ‘mum-look.’ You know the one I mean.

Over the next few days every one of those Whole Kids snacks were hoovered up and devoured by my hungry hoard! Which pretty much says everything you need to know about Whole Kids food. Healthy and delicious! Believe me if they weren’t yummy they would lay gathering dust in my pantry.

I’ve got some snacks in my snack box that my kids blatantly refuse to eat. They’d rather lie on the floor and complain loudly and repetitively non-stop about how they are ‘starving’ for all eternity rather than eat one of them. But the Whole Kids snacks disappeared quicker than PSY’s musical career! They love them and I’ve already added them to my weekly grocery list!

If like me, you are always on the lookout for convenient healthy kids snacks without the junk, (that they will actually eat) I highly recommend Whole Kids.  You can check out the rest of their fantastic range here.
