The Top 10 Embarrassing Moments for Parents Has Been Revealed – How Many Have Your Kids Done?

Someone has completed another eye-opening study revealing that children are embarrassing. We’re going to go ahead and assume that the study was done by Captain Obvious and his esteemed colleague, Noshit Sherlock. Because this is not really news to us, we know our kids do embarrassing things all the live long day.

Research carried out on 1,500 parents has found the embarrassing moments take place only once every three days, amounting to 132 awkward experiences for families each year. That figure sounds outrageously small to us, but okay.

The study was carried out by Pukka Pies, a UK meat pie company, because why the hell not? Next, we’ll have Mrs Mac explaining to us all that children are messy and noisy. Or learning that the good people at Four’n’Twenty have commissioned a study on the top ten reasons why teenagers are moody.

Anyway, here are the results of the study — the top ten ways children embarrass their parents the most.

1. Pointing out a stranger’s looks

There is seriously nothing worse than hearing your child’s sweet little voice say “Mummy, that man is VERY FAT!” as loudly as possible while sitting in a quiet doctor’s waiting room.

2. Staring incessantly at a stranger in public

And then when you tell them to be quiet and not to say things like that, they continue to stare at the gloriously plump stranger until everyone is sitting in uncomfortable silence.

3. Telling someone something private said about them

“Mum said that you have hairy legs and that you drink too much wine!” Well shit, thanks kiddo. How am I going to dig myself out of that hole?

4. Saying un-PC things in public

We know that kids don’t have a filter, and they really don’t have a politically correct filter. Everyone is fair game for loud enquiries about personal appearances from children, especially when it comes to people from different cultures or lifestyles.

5. Innocently pronouncing a word incorrectly and getting the complete opposite meaning

I mean, we can see how this might be awkward for some people but we’re not sure why this one made the list. I would think this would be more funny than embarrassing.

6. Talking about their private parts loudly in public

No one needs a running commentary on your farting abilities, Jimmy.

7. Calling you out on a lie in public

“Mum, that’s not true. You went to the pub yesterday with Aunty Kath, not the gym!” Again, thanks kid. Meanwhile, everyone is laughing at you and you feel the flush start to rise in your cheeks. Nice work.

8. Breaking something in a shop and causing a mess

No matter how many times you tell them not to touch anything, as soon as you go into one of those fancy shops with all the things styled nicely they just start picking up everything! And before you can hiss at them to stop, they’ve knocked over a vase of clear pebbles all over the place. Prue and Trude behind the counter glare at you and you hightail it outta there, dragging your devils spawn behind you in embarrassment. Yeah, this one definitely makes the list! 10/10 can relate.

9. Copying your swearwords

This one is entirely our fault. And having your child call another child an asshat in front of their horrified parents is not fun, I don’t care who you are.

10. Coughing on a stranger

I could not think of anything worse than either my child coughing on a stranger or having some random kid coughing on me. Yick!

Do you have any embarrassing situations to add this list? And how many of these have your children embarrassed you with?
