Man Finds out the Hard Way Why You Shouldn’t Propose to Your Girlfriend over a Drain

One of the world’s most vibrant and beautiful cities sounds like the perfect location for the love of your life to pop the question, doesn’t it? New York City has many beautiful spots to propose — the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, at the top of the Empire State Building.

How about directly over a metal grate covering a grotty drain in Times Square?

An engagement has gone horribly wrong in a matter of seconds as a man dropped to one knee and nervously fumbled with the glittery hardware over a drain in New York City.

NYPD Special Operations officers searched for the unlucky dude after recovering the stunning diamond ring from the city drainage system and giving it a bit of a cleanup. They took to Twitter to try and find the couple in order to return the sparkler.

They included an image of the beautiful engagement ring – a solitaire diamond in a claw setting with smaller diamonds set in the gold band.

We are pleased to report that this story has a happy ending as British couple John and Daniella have claimed the ring after millions viewed the unfortunate footage.

After lying on his stomach in a desperate attempt to retrieve the jewellery but unable to reach it, John made the decision to give up and they walked away.

By the time the ring was located, the couple had already flown back to the UK.

“I cannot thank the officers enough and the people of New York for sharing! We are so, so happy and literally can’t thank everyone enough!” John said.

What a grate ending!
