Chill On Ice Lounge and Ski Lodge makes Southgate its new home

Chill On Ice Lounge & Ski Lodge, one of Melbourne’s unique social experiences, is now located on the Yarra River’s restaurant and shopping precinct, Southgate.

At a chilled -10°C the Ice Lounge is made from over 50 tonnes of sculpted ice with regularly changing themes and designs gracing the moulded ice interior. Kitted out in custom designed capes, boots and gloves provided by the venue, patrons can enjoy Arctic-themed cocktails and fruity drinks in glasses made entirely from ice. It’s the most fun you can have with (lots of) clothes on!

Every few months a new theme is brought to life in the Chill On Ice Lounge and depending on the detail of the sculpture, it can take 40 man hours to cut and sculpt just one figure. Additional specialty sculptures such as a full size Santa sleigh are created to coincide with events such as Christmas.

Taking approximately two weeks to freeze a 2m x 1m x1m block of ice, the Ice Lounge was 6 months in the making with everything from the walls, chairs, tables, couches, glasses and even the bar itself made entirely of ice. Featuring hand carved ice sculptures patrons can drink amongst weird and wonderful ice creatures which are changed according to each new theme.

The experience doesn’t end at the Ice Lounge, the newly added Ski Lodge gives patrons a warm place to thaw and hang out with friends and family after an icy experience in the Lounge. Inspired by a winter chalet, the central fireplace provides an inviting ambience combined with comfortable seating, soft lighting and a brilliant aspect of the Yarra River.

The attractive main entrance with stacked stone walls and timber staircase takes you from the promenade of Southgate and transports you to a winter wonderland which is the perfect destination for thawing out after a long week at work.

The relocation and new design of Chill On Ice Lounge & Ski Lodge has incorporated a kitchen offering an array of dishes from tapas style entrees, perfect with an after work drink, to hearty mains for those wanting something more substantial. The menu has been designed to tempt even the most frozen of taste buds.

The Ice Lounge isn’t just for grownups, kids are welcome every day until 7pm making it a unique outing the whole family will enjoy. While adults are offered a selection of icy cocktails, kids can enjoy fruity drinks whilst sporting specially sized capes, boots and gloves.
