Emma Quay

The best remedy for defusing the arsenic hour blues in my house is bathtime.

I love it.

Bath time is laugh time.

The bubbles and the giggles are exactly what are needed to wash away those soul-sapping dinner time tantrums and settle little ones ready for bed.

In this stunning new picture book, 'Nudie Rudie,'  award winning author and illustrator Emma Quay  captures those magical moments between bathtime and bedtime.

Through a combination of charming illustrations and simple but evocative rhyming text, the joy and innocence of childhood ‘rudie nudie’ moments are celebrated.

I particularly love how Quay is able to explore, through images and words, the different tactile surfaces the children explore, from the wet mat beside the bath, to the bristly doormat, and the tickle of leaves on bare skin.

The beautiful pastel colours and charcoal drawings are a wonderful accompaniment for bedtime reading.  They suit the theme perfectly, and are not too stimulating whilst still managing to be engaging.

This book is a winner is my house!  My children love it, and soon-to-be-too Bubble is convinced that the little girl in the book is her.

Here is a little peek preview…

I love bedtime because I get alone time with each of the boys that involves lots of cuddles, story time and singing them to sleep. Bit spec! x

In the evening when it's time to 'settle' down and get ourselves ready for bed and and my youngest DD reaches up to be helped up and gives me a big squeezy 'cuggle' and a kiss. Just love it.

My favourite time of the day is first up in the morning when I enter my twin boys bedroom and see two smiling happy faces and hear the Mumma chorus :-)

Lately. It has been ALL day. My miss 3.5yr old has really turned a corner in her bahaviour and in the process we all have been enjoying a couple of wonderful weeks! From saying "yes my darling" when asked to help out, to giving is massive bear hugs whilst out to dinner in the city with friends! She is a delight all day, but I have to admit the "let's snuggle in bed" with a cheeky grin every morning as she jumps into our bed is pretty priceless.

My most favourite moment is when my youngest daughter will wake in the middle of the night and call out "mummy", "yes" is my grunting reply :zzz "I love you" she tells me and then goes back to sleep...

I love early in the morning when my 3 children stir & 1 by 1 they make their way into my bed for cuddles. The way they look at me with their sleepy eyes & gently touch my face with their soft hands is so beautiful. The best way to start the day.

I love the early morning hugs, and having special reading time together. I also love those moments of wonderful nothings, when we can just just sit and do nothing together.

Having a cuddle in the rocker right before bed with a warm milk and a good book.
